Self-discipline

To make things interesting, I decided to start waking up earlier than usual. My work is supposed to start at 10am, however, I decided that I should start waking up at 8am and get to work by 9am every morning for two weeks, as part of an effort to work out and flex my self-discipline muscle. I also noticed that I waste a lot of time at work on many unnecessary things, mainly web surfing and absorbing and reading tons of unnecessary info. I realized that I should get on an information diet, i.e, limit the intake of info from the internet. So, I set aside only 20 min each morning for reading email and catching up on the various news. I installed some scripts from firefox that would black out the sites that I spend too much time on. I spend a lot of time reading nytimes.com, bbc and blogs by my hero and role model Tim Ferriss and others. I don't consider blogging to be as a waste of time, as it's more of a vehicle to organize and express my thoughts and ideas. I was having a lunch with a friend today and she reprimanded me for eating lots of carbs (I was having a spaghetti carbonara) and asked me when I would resume my low-carb, high-protein diet. I opened my mouth to say very soon, but then I realized that I don't have to wait to start tomorrow, that I could actually start today, from my next meal. No flour, no rice, no potatoes and very little alcohol starting from today! Once a week, I will indulge myself with a meal with loads of carbs, but only one day a week. I will keep you posted regarding my progress or the lack of it. ;)
